As a partner and member of the Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation (PRCM), Naforé participated in the FOMACO 2026 Forum, a major regional event bringing together stakeholders committed to the conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable development for the benefit of local communities.
At this event, Naforé hosted an exhibition stand highlighting the main results of the MCO project, through a selection of products from income-generating activities developed with the beneficiary communities. Visitors were able to discover traditional Mauritanian mats made from Sporobolus stems and hides processed through tanning, sachets of water lily seeds, and acacia and mangrove honey produced within the project. This exhibition illustrated the potential for the sustainable use of natural resources and the economic opportunities they offer to local populations when managed responsibly.
Beyond the exhibition, Naforé also participated in the side event dedicated to the MCO project, organized by the PRCM. This meeting brought together all the countries benefiting from the program, providing a valuable forum for sharing experiences, presenting results, and highlighting best practices developed in each national context.
During this session, Naforé presented the project’s main achievements in Mauritania, emphasizing the strengthening of community livelihoods, the promotion of local products, the development of economic activities compatible with ecosystem conservation, and the involvement of local populations in the sustainable management of natural resources.
Naforé’s participation in the FOMACO 2026 Forum strengthened exchanges with regional partners, promoted the achievements of the MCO project to a wider audience, and consolidated collaborations for the integrated and sustainable management of coastal and marine areas. It also demonstrates the association’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities in developing sustainable economic activities, reconciling improved living conditions with the preservation of biodiversity.
