As part of activities to develop seven Non-Timber Forest Product (NTFP) value chains and to process and preserve market garden produce (doum palm fruit, jujube fruit, desert date fruit, baobab fruit powder, onion, carrot, and cabbage) at sites within the PGIRN project’s intervention zone in Guidimakha, the NAFORE Association conducted a “training of trainers” session from August 29 to 31, 2026. Held at the headquarters of the Guidimakha Women’s Cooperatives Union (UCFG) in Sélibaby, the training focused on techniques for processing NTFPs and processing/preserving market garden produce.
The activity aimed to strengthen the technical capacities of 20 resource persons—drawn from cooperatives across the Integrated Natural Resource Management (PGIRN) project’s intervention landscapes (Maal, Djelliwar, and Karakoro) and the UCFG—regarding the processing of NTFPs and local agricultural products.
During the training, participants attended demonstrations on making cakes from baobab, doum palm, and jujube fruit powders; producing syrup and oil from desert date fruit; and processing and preserving three types of market garden produce (onion, cabbage, and carrot).
The women trained came from the communes of Boully and Schleika, as well as the Guidimakha Women’s Cooperatives Union.
