True to our commitment to preserving biodiversity, the Naforé Association for Environmental Protection participated in the official presentation ceremony of the Loboudou Bird Guidebook, produced by Ornithos Sans Frontière in partnership with the Loboudou Community Development Association (ADC) Salayel, on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Loboudou Oumar Ly.
The ceremony was presided over by the Mayor of the Dar El Barka Commune, Mr. Abeïd Mohamed Abd, and brought together village chiefs from the region as well as numerous civil society organizations involved in environmental preservation, including PATAM, REMEV, the AVPMF of Guédé Village, Fedde Gomou Pinal Salayel, Fedde Apiculture Kawral Loboudou, the Loboudou Women’s Cooperative, and several youth associations.
We welcomed this initiative, which contributes to the appreciation of local biodiversity and raises community awareness of the importance of protecting birds and their habitats. This booklet is a valuable educational tool for strengthening environmental education, particularly among younger generations.
On this occasion, the President of the Naforé Association for Environmental Protection delivered a speech in which he reaffirmed our commitment and shared our vision for the sustainable conservation of local biodiversity.
“Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear partners,
Dear guests,
Dear friends of nature,
It is a great honor and a true pleasure for me to speak today at this launch ceremony for the book dedicated to the birds of Loboudou, a valuable scientific and educational work produced by the NGO Ornithology Without Borders for the benefit of the Salaayel Association of Loboudou.” First and foremost, on behalf of our association, the Naforé Association for Environmental Protection, which I have the distinct honor of presiding over, I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the NGO Ornithology Without Borders for this remarkable initiative, which demonstrates its unwavering commitment to biodiversity conservation and capacity building for national organizations. This book is much more than a simple publication: it is a tool for knowledge, awareness-raising, and knowledge transmission, intended for present and future generations.
Our thanks and encouragement also go to the Salaayel Association of Loboudou for its constant and steadfast commitment to environmental protection in general, and biodiversity protection in particular.
Ladies and Gentlemen, birds play a vital role in our ecosystems. They are indicators of environmental health, key players in pollination, insect population regulation, and seed dispersal. Protecting birds is therefore protecting our ecosystems, our natural heritage, and ultimately, our shared future.
Ladies and Gentlemen, in a context marked by the effects of climate change, the degradation of natural habitats, and the accelerated loss of biodiversity, this book is very timely. It will help raise awareness among communities, young people, teachers, and policymakers, while supporting the conservation efforts carried out on the ground by our NGO and all the stakeholders involved at other sites across the country.
Indeed, we see this book as a bridge between science and action, between knowledge and the concrete protection of nature. It reinforces our vision of participatory, inclusive, and knowledge-based conservation.
I hope that this publication will be widely distributed and used in schools, training centers, protected areas, and awareness programs, so that it inspires renewed momentum for the protection of birds and biodiversity in our country.Ladies and Gentlemen,
In conclusion, allow me to reiterate our thanks to the NGO Ornithology Without Borders, the Salaayel Association of Loboudou, all our technical and financial partners, and everyone who contributed to the creation of this work. Together, let us continue to work towards a healthy environment, protected biodiversity, and a sustainable future for our children.

The event was also attended by the Director of Coastal, Protected Areas, and Wetlands at the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the Chief of the Gendarmerie Brigade, the Police Commissioner of Dar El Barka, the representative of the Regional Delegate of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the representative of the University of Nouakchott, and the Director of the Loboudou School.
