Glasgow (United Kingdom), Thursday, November 4, 2021,
the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Marieme BEKAYE, held a working meeting with the Mauritanian delegation participating in the 26th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP-UNCC), which is taking place from November 1 to 12, 2021 in Glasgow (United Kingdom), to assess our country’s participation and the issues of the conference.
Mrs. BEKAYE recalled the context in which COP26 is being held, its objectives, as well as our country’s expectations, considering its specificities and the dependence of its economic activities on natural resources.
Also, the Minister, reviewing the preparation process for the nationally determined contribution (NDC), emphasized the importance of consultation and intersectoral coordination between her department and the various sectors, local communities, the private sector, and civil society, to effectively implement the NDC’s action plan.
Finally, Ms. BEKAYE urged the members of the delegation to fully participate in the various events of this important conference, in order to gain the best insights and establish beneficial partnerships for our country across different sectors and at all levels.
